Agranovich Phase-locked states in Earth’s climate system were identified in a study of a set of climate indices by Swanson and Tsonis (2009) [1] (ST). They reported five climate shift events since 1900 based upon features in a phase-locking parameter S . The present study finds that sets of climate indices have important topological properties such as a metric diameter D that describes the magnitude of phase locking among the indices. Minima in D as a function of time are shown to be associated with climate shifts. Eighteen strong events since 1870 are identified, including the five reported by ST. Ten of these minima correspond to reported events such as the well documented “climate shift of the mid-1970s” and the more recent climate shift of 2001–2002. Most climate shifts tend toward radiative equilibrium. © 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

LAGA: A Software for Landscape Allocation using Genetic Algorithm

In this paper, Landscape Allocation using Genetic Algorithm (LAGA), a spatial multi-objective land use optimization software is introduced. The software helps in searching for optimal land use when multiple objectives such as suitability, area, cohesion and edge density indices are simultaneously involved. LAGA is a flexible and easy to use genetic algorithm-based software for optimizing the sp...

Dual Phase Detector Based Delay Locked Loop for High Speed Applications

In this paper a new architecture for delay locked loops will be presented.  One of problems in phase-frequency detectors (PFD) is static phase offset or reset path delay. The proposed structure decreases the jitter resulted from PFD by switching two PFDs. In this new architecture, a conventional PFD is used before locking of DLL to decrease the amount of phase difference between input and outpu...

Closed-Form Analytical Equations to Transient Analysis of Bang-Bang Phase-Locked Loops

Due to the nonlinear nature of the Bang-Bang phase-locked loops (BBPLLs), its transient analysis is very difficult. In this paper, new equations are proposed for expression of transient behavior of the second order BBPLLs to phase step input. This approach gives new insights into the transient behavior of BBPLLs. Approximating transient response to reasonable specific waveform the loop tran...

A Novel Metamaterial Microelectromechanical Systems Phase Shifter with High Phase Shift and High Bandwidth

In this paper, new topology of phase shifter is proposed that uses advantage of metamaterial and MEMS technology. The phase shifter is switched between two states of RH- and LH-TL having frequency passband unlike other proposed metamaterials which create the maximum phase shift from one unitcell. Analysis and design approach of the phase shifter is presented and the structure is simulated using...

High Speed Delay-Locked Loop for Multiple Clock Phase Generation

In this paper, a high speed delay-locked loop (DLL) architecture ispresented which can be employed in high frequency applications. In order to design the new architecture, a new mixed structure is presented for phase detector (PD) and charge pump (CP) which canbe triggered by double edges of the input signals. In addition, the blind zone is removed due to the elimination of reset signal. Theref...
